Connecticut, Vermont, Rhode Island & New Hampshire

Roadside Treasures, Galore!

We have had a blast exploring around these four tiny states. What they lack in size they make up for in character and beauty!

Who knew Santa owned land in Vermont?

New Haven, Connecticut...where the burger was born. This historic diner has been around since 1895, and it is where the first hamburger was created in 1900. That's worth a stop in our book.

These burgers are cooked to order in the original cast-iron grills dating back to 1898. The Louis Lunch experience is all about taste and simplicity of a fresh burger grilled to perfection. No condiments are offered as cheese, tomato, and onion are the only acceptable garnish. They also use fun ordering lingo known as "Louis' Lingo" - but it's more fun to learn from the locals! Plan your visit here.

While in Pawtucket, Rhode Island we visited the the business district and Modern Diner. Thought to be "modernistic" in the late 1930's and early 1940's this diner is a customized Sterling Streamliner and was the very first to be accepted on the National Register for Historic Places. Modern Diner is still serving pies, coffee, and inexpensive fare to this day.

At over 4,000 years old, Americas Stonehenge in Salem, New Hampshire is likely the oldest man-made construction in the U.S. It is unknown who built it, but whatever ancient people did were well versed in astronomy and stone construction. The site is an accurate astronomical calendar and can still be used to determine specific solar and lunar events of the year.
