Memorial Day History:

With Memorial Day coming up on May 27, we at Unclaimed Baggage Center are thinking about our veterans and fallen troops and how grateful we are for them. Although we celebrate this day every year on the last Monday of May, do you know where the celebration originated?

Originally called ‘Decoration Day,’ Memorial Day began after the Civil War when Americans would visit fallen soldiers and bring flowers to their graves. It didn’t become an official federal holiday until 1971, making it a three day weekend for most.

We will be visiting our very own new Veteran's Memorial Park right here in Scottsboro, AL this Memorial Day weekend to remember those who have fallen on our behalf. The Scottsboro Veteran's Memorial Park was recently completed and a wonderful display of those who served. Follow along and check out more info on the Scottsboro Veteran's Memorial Park here. We hope you appreciate it as much as we do.

We’ve also highlighted several other great places to check out this long weekend. Below are some great places to enjoy summer's road trip kick off that just so happen to cross paths with yours truly!! Come make us a part of your travel plans as you enjoy this Memorial Day weekend.
