We can trace our area's history back 12,000 years! And
the Scottsboro-Jackson Heritage Center tells it all,
right up through the Civil War. A pioneer village and
museum brings the past alive. There are many exhibits
and festivals throughout the year. Call the Chamber
of Commerce for information.
Stevenson Depot
was a Union stronghold during the Civil War. Today,
it's a great place to visit if you love trains or Civil
War history. You'll find it on Main Street in Stevenson
(between Scottsboro and Bridgeport). The Scottsboro
and Jackson County Chamber of Commerce can give you
more information about this and other attractions.

Russell Cave

Your kids will think this is very cool. Pre-historic
Indians lived in this cave for 8,000 years. You can
discover where these people lived, see their weapons
and tools and imagine what it might have been like to
live in pre-historic times. Plan at least an hour to
explore the cave and museum. And if you have time, plan
another hour or two to hike the nature trail.

May we suggest that on your way to or from Chattanooga,
you take a tour of Ruby Falls located on historic Lookout
Mountain. This is a most unusual natural wonder! Ruby
Falls is the highest (145') underground waterfall in
America. There are guided tours on paved, level walkways.
You can also get a spectacular panoramic view from Lookout
Mountain Tower so bring your camera (or get a great
one at Unclaimed Baggage Center!). There are directional
billboards to Lookout Mountain all along the highways
and you'll find it by taking exit 174 or 178 off Interstate
24.

Chattanooga is the world's largest freshwater aquarium
which also features altwater habitats for sea life.
You'll wander through an incredible 60-foot canyon and
two rain forests while watching 7,000 animals swim,

a six-story screen is a not-to-be-missed experience

For over one hundred years the residents of Scottsboro
and Jackson County have come together for "trade
days" where bartering, buying and swapping of goods
has not passed on with time. It's a unique blend of
yard sales, antique shows, and arts and crafts. While
shopping, be sure to stop in the many antique and other
delightful shops located on the Square.
